These are great little bites to arrange in tall pretty glasses throughout the house when having people over.
1 sheet (8 oz) frozen puff pastry
All-purpose flour
1 large egg white
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Freshly Ground Black pepper
Preheat the oven to 400 deg F.
Remove the puff pastry & let it stand at room temperature on a floured surface for about 30 minutes. Using a rolling pin, roll out pastry to a large rectangle, about 12" x 14". In a small bowl, beat the egg white with 1 TBSP water. Brush this egg white mixture over the whole pastry. Sprinkle the whole pastry evenly. with the cheese. Then liberally sprinkle the pastry with freshly ground black pepper. (This recipe can be easily adjusted to your preference, using more or less cheese & pepper). Take a piece of plastic wrap & lay over the pastry. Roll up and down the pastry to press the ingredients into the pastry. Remove the plastic wrap & discard.
Take the bottom shorter side of your pastry rectangle and bring it up halfway over to meet the top of the rectangle, enclosing the ingredients. Take a knife or pizza cutter, and start slicing into 1/2" strips along short side (12" side). Once you have sliced all of your strips, take each strip and twist into nice spiral shapes, pinching each of the ends of each bread stick. Arrange all bread sticks on oiled baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or just until golden brown. Let cool slightly and then remove carefully with spatula.
I like to arrange these bread sticks in several large glasses, set out on various coffee tables throughout the house when entertaining. Enjoy!
